about

This is a double album: disk one (tracks 1-11) are improvisations, featuring phil hargreaves on flute and soprano sax and Richard Harding on classical and acoustic guitar.

The second disk (track 12) is a reimagining of the same material by Richard Harding, and is a 48 minute electro-acoustic piece.

Review------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have always been fascinated by the improvising combos that give prominence to the classical guitar, but it is usually easier to find such productions on the contemporary side. So having caught
this little gem with strong freeform accents, where it makes its worthy appearance was a sign of amazement.

We specify that the Graculus do not give exclusive space to the six strings but that in reality they are a duo formed by the English Phil Hargeraves (flute, soprano sax) and Richard Harding (classical and acoustic guitar), and with this theme they already have assets
a couple of long-distance rehearsals (the namesake of 2010 and "Small Thing", released 2 years later), which, listened to in a chronological sense, clearly show the path taken so far in the construction of a clear, simple sound, not manipulated, based on the instinct suggested by the moment, and all played on jet improvisation, concocting tracks balanced between free angularity and faded, almost
meek tones, which immediately afterwards give way to free hysterias.
The concept of the duo is also to reformulate the same improvisations present in the first CD, later drawing out of it a hybrid sound material, completely different, with ambient-wings shapes. In the second disc,
in fact, you have the opportunity to listen to a rehash of the 12 tracks operated by Harding alone, who weaves a long electroacoustic piece whose placid, indolent, meditative DNA would never, ever make them approach the lively raids from which they draw. inspiration.
A heterogeneous work, which never bores, showing the more libertarian and informal side of the improvised in the land of Albion.
